There are tablets other than the iPad 2? Really?
If you viewed the tablet market only from the outpouring of this week's news, you would think there was only one in existence: the iPad 2. News about the updated Apple device all but swamped every other news story including the deficit crisis, Libya, and even Charlie Sheen.
Nevertheless, at least one other tablet has been making news recently.
Motorola’s Xoom tablet, which most observers see as the first credible competitor to the iPad, was released last week. Featuring Google Android’s new Honeycomb 3.0 operating software, specifically developed for tablet use, the tablet is available only with a cell data plan via Verizon — there is no WiFi-only unit yet — and will cost $599 with a two-year plan and $799 with no contract.
The tablet is similar in size to the iPad2, weighs about 4 ounces more, and like the iPad2 ,features a dual-core processor, full multitasking, front- and rear-facing cameras, and WiFi. One feature no iPad will ever have, however, is Flash animation; the Xoom will have it shortly. The Xoom will go to market supporting the slower Verizon 3G data network, but will be upgradable (with a free hardware upgrade) to the swift Verizon 4G LTE network in the spring. The iPad2 will be sold by both Verizon and AT&T but only with 3G networking.
More than a few observers think the Xoom's pricing is outrageously high compared to iPad pricing.
For those looking to see how well other leading tablets stack up against the iPad (and vice-versa), the Lifehacker website released a comparison chart comparing the iPad2 specifications with those of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Xoom.
So, will you buy a new iPad2? Washington Post tech columnist Rob Pegoraro raised that question to his readers Thursday (March 3), offering choices that included no interest in a new gadget and waiting for the delivery of the Android Honeycomb OS. The results? Over 50 percent favored getting the new iPad. And several observers are asking if the iPad spells doom for the Xoom. Judging by the specifications of both systems, however, the rumors of Xoom's death may be greatly exaggerated.

Comcast's Xfinity iPad/iPhone app, which enables users to control their TVs from their devices, now is available for Android smartphone users. The free app released this week allows cable users to access and review their channel guide on their smartphones, set up recordings on their digital recorders, filter the results by high definition channels, movies, sports, and childrens' programming; and select on-demand movies and TV shows for viewing on their TV sets. There is some speculation that these apps will eventually enable Comcast subscribers to view their programs on their smartphones, but that's not available on the current crop of Xfinity apps.

O, CBC: The new Canadian news app debuts. Unlike many parts of our country, Seattleites do know and care that Canada exists. And now, there’s an app for that. CBCNews has released a cross-platform news app — Apple iPad/iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices — to showcase the organization’s stellar newsgathering prowess. The CBC website has also been upgraded and will provide live streaming video when appropriate, including live pictures from global hotspots such as the current turmoil in the Middle East.
People with access to the local Comcast cable service can watch the CBC’s news hour, “The National” weeknights at 10:00p.m. PST in both high-definition (CBUT-Ch. 619) and standard definition (Ch. 99) TV.

Despite Amazon.com having a 5,000-film on-line video streaming library, its past efforts to compete with streaming leader Netflix has been at best half-hearted. Amazon content was available on-line with a per-item rental; Netflix was always subscription-based.
All that is changing. Seattle-based Amazon announced that members of Amazon Prime, its $79 annual membership program, will have unlimited free access to streaming films in its collection. Amazon’s current library is reportedly less than half the Netflix collection — Netflix is believed to have more than 11,000 titles — but Amazon is, well, Amazon with enormous name recognition, dependability, and the muscle to compete effectively in virtually any market it chooses. The Amazon Prime program originally offered free two-day shipping, one-day shipping for $3.99 per item; now it offers free streaming videos.
Dollar for dollar, the Amazon program is cheaper than Netflix, averaging $6.60 per month, but it's sold as an annual subscription. Netflix’ streaming-only service costs consumers $96 a year but is paid monthly at $7.99. Adding streaming films to Amazon Prime could be a market-changer for Amazon if people perceive their program as a bargain.
The free movie feature only applies to older films. New films such as "The Social Network" and "Inception" or TV shows such as "Glee" are not part of the Amazon Prime offering.
Netflix continues to solidify its position as top dog in the streaming world. Netflix recently announced that its subscribers will have access to the CBS video library, but mostly for viewing older shows. The two-year nonexclusive pact will allow viewing of full seasons of “Cheers,” “The Twilight Zone” and “Star Trek,” among others. A few recent shows such as “Medium” and “Flashpoint” will be available for viewing.

So you’ve rooted your Motorola XOOM and you’re having an awesome time doing everything you’ve ever wanted to do on a giant screen. Then it hits you – a post saying that in order to grab yourself a [4G LTE upgrade from Verizon], you’re gonna have to return that tablet back to stock. Oh noes! Your life would be ever so much more simple if you just had an easy-to-use file that’d essentially do it with a single click — oh my goodness, that’s what we’ve got right here.
This whole situation is made possible by Motorola’s generous unlockable boot loader on the XOOM – now that everyone is rolling around with spikes all over their hands and feet inside their devices, it’s very VERY nice to be able to have what we’ve got here: the stock SBF file. With this file, you’ll be able to use RSD lite to move your device back to the original factory settings. Has this file been send unto the world by Motorola or Verizon officially? No way. Will it be released officially sometime in the future? Possibly, but probably not.
A much more likely situation is that this file has indeed been released accidentally – even though Motorola has allowed you to unlock your device whenever you like, this sort of file is not oft let loose on purpose – guarantees, and all that.
To grab the files you need to bop your device back to stock, head over to the following multi-upload site: [AYQMI1KXLU] or for RSD 4.9 head to this Megaupload instead: [N1MPCX1U]. Then feel free to go back on over to the original XDA thread for further details from the folks that originally discovered this awesome situation.

A report is claiming that Windows Phone 7 will not arrive this quarter in Verizon Wireless.
According to Ubergizmo, a Verizon representative claims that Verizon will start selling the Windows Phone 7-powered HTC Trophy in June, debunking earlier notes that the Windows phone will arrive this month.
Compared to other high-end HTC devices like the Thunderbolt and the Evo 4G, the HTC Trophy has no front-facing camera, but with a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 720p resolution.
Plus, HTC Trophy doesn’t support expandable MicroSD card, but features a 1 GHz single-core Snapdragon processor, the same processing power as the HTC Thunderbolt and other popular smartphones out there.
I think June is a little late because a lot of Android phones are expected to début this quarter like the HTC Thunderbolt and the Motorola Droid Bionic (might hit stores in April). It’s highly possible that Verizon still favors Android over Windows Phone, that’s bad news Nokia.
Speaking of HTC Thunderbolt, more evidences are available on the internet confirming that the first-ever 4G/LTE smartphone will arrive this month. Last date mentioned is March 10.
Are you excited to experience the HTC Trophy with Windows Phone 7 inside? Or still craving for the HTC Thunderbolt or other Android smartphones?

As you can see from this advertisement I received this morning it appears if you are in the market for a new phone, Verizon Wireless might have a good deal for you to get into an Android smartphone!
$100 off any Droid? I've checked their website and I'm sure if this is an additional $100.00 off their activated prices or not. Their website makes no mention. So it could be that these prices have the $100.00 built in. paypal jeklie.ali09@gmail.com(jeklie munandar)

While it was reported that David Arquette was lying on the ground and bleeding after a head-on car crash Friday (March 4), the recently embattled actor took to Twitter hours later to let his followers know he's going to be OK.
"I got into a car accident but I'm fine," he tweeted, adding a quip about tiger-blooded fellow actor Charlie Sheen. "Luckily I have dragon's blood running through my veins. Haha Thank you for all your concern."
A few minutes before that message, Arquette tweeted, "Remember to wear your seatbelt-wish I was."
According to TMZ, Arquette was driving in West Hollywood, California, when his car veered into oncoming traffic. A photograph posted on the site showed Arquette lying on his back in the grass with his eyes closed and his hands crossed over his chest.
The "Scream 4" actor has had a difficult few months beginning last October when he and his wife of 11 years, Courteney Cox, announced their plans to separate. Since that announcement, Arquette spent time at a rehabilitation facility to deal with alcohol abuse and "other issues."
"Everybody's worried and concerned about me," Arquette said during one of a series of revealing interviews with friend and radio host Howard Stern. "I've been drinking a lot because I'm heartbroken. It's really a personal, traumatic thing. ... When I drink, I become a maniac."
Arquette had previously revealed to Stern details about his sex life with his ex and his distress over the separation. At the time he checked into rehab earlier this year, Courteney Cox told People magazine, "I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life. I love and support him."

Cavaliers Continue to Haunt Knicks

The Knicks engaged in monthslong trade talks to land Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets for moments like the one that arrived on Friday, when he could take the ball and decide a game that was teetering in either direction.
With seven seconds left and the Knicks trailing the Cleveland Cavaliers by 2 points, Anthony stuck his head down and drove hard to the basket. He flipped the ball toward the rim and heard a whistle. But instead of being rewarded with free throws, Anthony was tacked with an offensive foul as Samardo Samuels held his ground.
The Knicks lost for the second time in a week to the Cavaliers, 119-115 at Madison Square Garden.
Before Anthony’s drive, the Knicks encountered some other unhealthy signs. Seconds earlier, the team reached an unsatisfying answer to the question of who would take the deciding shot in a close game. With the Knicks collapsing late and the Cavaliers taking their first lead since the second quarter, Shawne Williams clanked a 17-footer with 29 seconds left as Amar’e Stoudemire and Anthony watched.
Baron Davis, in his first game with the Cavaliers after last week’s trade from the Los Angeles Clippers, followed with a 3-pointer. The Knicks still had a chance to win or force overtime once Stoudemire made a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining and Ramon Sessions missed one of his two free throws after he was fouled by Toney Douglas.
But Anthony, who had 29 points on an efficient 16 shots, came up short on his final drive. The result also nullified Stoudemire’s huge effort of 41 points and 9 rebounds.
With or without LeBron James and with or without Anthony, the meetings between these teams end the same way: the Knicks have lost 11 straight games to Cleveland.
The Cavaliers are constant in only two ways this season: their many losses and the troubles they give the Knicks. Of their 12 wins this season, 3 have come at the Knicks’ expense. Anthony’s road debut with the organization came last week in Cleveland. The Knicks lost.
Point guard Chauncey Billups tended to a bruised thigh for the second straight game and watched from the bench. Ronny Turiaf, the occasional starting center, joined him in inactivity with a sore left knee. Coach Mike D’Antoni said he hoped Billups would return Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks.
Without Billups and Turiaf, two holdovers from an overhauled roster started. Douglas ran the offense, but he did not play as efficiently as he did in a victory against New Orleans and watched the final two minutes from the bench. Jared Jeffries, in his second game since his return to the Knicks, started in Turiaf’s place and anchored a defense that suffered without him after he encountered foul trouble in the second quarter. The Cavaliers were without Antawn Jamison, their leading scorer, who is sidelined indefinitely with a broken finger.
After last week’s loss in Cleveland, Anthony said that the Knicks owed one to the Cavaliers. He was limited by elbow pain in that game and missed a key free throw down the stretch.
“I hate for them to have to say that,” D’Antoni said before Friday’s game. “They shouldn’t have had to see that because we shouldn’t have had to owe them one.”
Anthony’s first half was his finest since last week’s trade. He scored 17 points on a tidy 8 shots while Stoudemire paced the Knicks with 19 points. But the Knicks did little to account for J. J. Hickson’s inside presence or Cleveland’s 3-point shooters and went into intermission with only a 64-58 lead.
The new and old rosters still need plenty of blending and their upcoming schedule is challenging, with games against Atlanta, Utah, Memphis and Dallas — all teams with winning records.
“They had some great games and when they’ve played well, they’ve really played well, I thought,” said Donnie Walsh, the Knicks’ president. “I knew there was going to be periods where they go down because they really hadn’t played with each other and that takes time.
“But generally, I feel really good about it, particularly about the future of the franchise because now we have a core of guys to go forward with and they’re at the highest level of the league.”

NFL owners, players extend collective bargaining talks by a week

The players union and the league will take the weekend off before resuming negotiations about how to share the NFL's $9 billion in annual revenue.

Let's make a deal.
That's the optimistic interpretation, at least, of the joint decision by the NFL and NFL Players Assn. on Friday to extend the deadline to reach a new collective bargaining agreement by a week to allow more talks with a federal mediator.
A day earlier, the sides agreed to a 24-hour extension, mere hours before the current CBA was set to expire. At that point, the union was poised to decertify, and the NFL was ready to lock out the players — a standoff that still has the potential to put games at risk. Team owners and players are battling over how to divide the league's annual $9 billion in revenue.
The parties will take a break over the weekend from their talks at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington, then resume Monday.
"We're obviously having a lot of dialogue," Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday, the 11th day of talks. "We met for a lot of days. And we are going to meet for more."
Jeff Pash, the league's top attorney and lead negotiator, called the negotiations "a challenge" and conceded the sides have "significant differences."
Asked if he is optimistic about the chances for nonbinding mediation leading to a deal, Pash said: "I've never felt that this is something where optimism, pessimism, up, down like it's a weather report is a good way to look at it. We're talking. That's the most important thing. And that's a reason for optimism. Talking is better than litigating. Talking is better than walking away. Let's stay at that."
DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFLPA, declined to comment specifically on the negotiations Friday. But he addressed fans of the league, saying, "We're not going to let you down."
